The mission of FLOSSNet is to unlock the potential of free/libre and open source software (FLOSS) through education, training and consultancy services for the benefit of NGOs, CBOs, individuals and small businesses in Africa.

With FLOSS, you have the the following four freedoms:
- The FREEDOM to use the software as you wish
- The FREEDOM to study the source code
- The FREEDOM to modify the source code
- The FREEDOM to share the software
Even though the software is "free", the training, support, troubleshooting, consultancy is not necessarily free
For Example
OpenOffice works exactly like MS Office. You have OpenOffice Writer which works like MS Word; OpenOffice Calc which works like MS Excel; etc. The difference is that OpenOffice is FLOSS, which means you can make copies and install it on as many computers as you can manage. On the other hand, MS Office is proprietary software, which means that you only get the first "freedom" and will have to buy a copy for each computer you want to install the software on.
